FAQs: Support

Formal or spoken, which type of Arabic should I learn?

We distinguish formal Arabic - also called Modern Standard or Classical Arabic and named “fus’ha” - from spoken Arabic, or dialects which are referred to by their region or country.

Formal Arabic is used in the media and is more a written than an oral register. It is not used for social interaction in daily life, but you won’t be able to speak about topics such as politics or economics without using at least some vocabulary of formal Arabic.

Spoken Arabic or dialects are essential to learn if your aim is to interact informally with people in an Arabic speaking environment. KALIMA كلمة offers classes in the three main dialects: North African, Egyptian and Levantine.

What is the minimum number of students required for a group class?

We require a minimum of three students per group class. If enrollment is lower, we will postpone the class to a new start date or offer you to switch to a private class instead.

When do classes take place?

Schedules are fully flexible for private classes: you pick the time and day that suit you best.
Group classes take place in the evening on weekdays (6pm-8pm or 8-10pm) and on weekends.

What happens if I miss a class?

Private classes can be postponed or rescheduled with a minimum notice of 24 hours.

For group classes, we cannot reschedule but in order to help you catch up and as long as you inform us of your absence with a minimum 24 hours notice, we offer you to sign up for a one-hour private class at a 50% discounted price to make up for the missed group class. This can only happen one time within each 20-hour-session.

Can I cancel my subscription?

You can stop or pause a private class subscription with 7 days notice.
For group classes, you have until 15 days before the start date of your group class to cancel your booking and get a full refund. If you cancel within less than 15 days before the start date we unfortunately cannot make any refunds. We will offer you to postpone the class to a new session (this can only happen once).
